Tulian Lake

Tulian Lake is a high-altitude alpine lake located near Pahalgam in the Anantnag district of Jammu and Kashmir, sitting at about 3,684 meters (12,087 feet) above sea level. It is surrounded on three sides by towering mountains rising over 4,800 meters (15,700 feet), usually snow-covered, creating a striking and serene landscape.

The lake lies in a meadow dotted with pine forests and has clear, turquoise blue waters often with chunks of ice floating on the surface. It is roughly a kilometer long and shaped somewhat like a figure eight. The journey to Tulian Lake involves a challenging trek through dense forests of pine, spruce, and fir, rolling meadows, and steep rocky terrain.

The lake is part of the Himalayan range, fed by waters from the surrounding Pir Panjal and Zanskar mountains, and offers spectacular views and a tranquil environment. It is a popular destination for trekkers and nature lovers, also noted for its association with local culture and spirituality. The trek can be demanding, especially near the lake, but rewards visitors with breathtaking scenery, diverse flora, and a peaceful atmosphere. Tulian Lake remains a pristine natural gem in Kashmir's mountainous landscape.
