Van Vihar Wildlife Sanctuary in Dholpur, Rajasthan, covers about 25 square kilometers on the Vindhya Plateau and is one of the oldest wildlife reserves in the region, established in 1955. It features dry deciduous forests dominated by dhok and khair trees and is home to diverse wildlife such as sambhar, chital, nilgai, wild boar, sloth bear, hyena, and leopard.
The sanctuary also hosts over 200 bird species, including migratory birds like the sarus crane, grey heron, pelicans, and white-necked stork. Besides animals and birds, reptiles like Indian python, cobra, and monitor lizard are found here.
The sanctuary is located near Ramsagar Lake, with facilities and natural beauty attracting nature lovers and birdwatchers, makes it a popular spot especially from October to March when wildlife sightings are best.
