Vandalur Zoo, officially known as Arignar Anna Zoological Park, is located in Vandalur, Chengalpattu district, Tamil Nadu, about 32 kilometers from Chennai city center. Established in 1855 as Madras Zoo and relocated to Vandalur in 1985, it is one of the largest zoos in South Asia, spanning over 602 hectares (1,490 acres).
The zoo houses approximately 2,375 animals across 172 species, including mammals, birds, and reptiles, many of which are endangered. It features naturalistic open enclosures, a wildlife safari, nocturnal animal exhibits, a serpentarium, a butterfly park, and an amphibian house.
