Alluri Sitharama Raju district is an administrative district in Andhra Pradesh, formed on April 4, 2022. It is named in honor of Alluri Sitarama Raju, a revered freedom fighter known for leading the Rampa Rebellion (1922–1924) against British colonial rule, particularly defending the rights of tribal communities in the Eastern Ghats region.
The district lies between latitudes 17° – 17′ and 18°-21′ North and is located in the northeastern part of Andhra Pradesh. The district was created by the government of Andhra Pradesh to develop and administer the region with a focus on the legacy of Alluri Sitarama Raju, whose leadership and resistance against the British Forest Act's repressive policies galvanized tribal populations.
The district's geography includes forested hills and plains, and it carries historical significance connected to the tribal insurgency led by Raju, known as "Manyam Veerudu" (Hero of the Jungle).
