Abubshahar Wildlife Sanctuary
Abubshahar Wildlife Sanctuary is a significant ecological reserve located in the Sirsa district of Haryana. Officially notified as a wildlife sanctuary on January 30, 1987, it spans an expansive area of approximately 11,530 hectares and lies about 15 kilometers from Mandi Dabwali along the Dabwali-Sangariya road.
The sanctuary is part of a semi-arid region and plays a crucial role in conserving the native flora and fauna of northwestern India. The landscape is characterized by dry deciduous forests and scrublands, which provide habitat for species such as blackbuck, nilgai, langurs, and various birds including the Saxicoloides fulicatus, commonly known as the Indian robin.
The sanctuary also supports a variety of reptiles and small mammals, contributing to its biodiversity. Eleven villages surround the sanctuary, and there have been efforts to convert it into a Community Reserve to encourage local participation in conservation while allowing for sustainable development.
