Achala Fort
Achala Fort, located about 55 kilometers from Nashik in Maharashtra, is a hill fort situated in the Satmala hill range and is closely linked with the nearby Ahivant Fort and Mohandar Fort, both built to protect Ahivant Fort. The fort stands at around 4,024 feet and is noted for its relatively easy ascent until a steep final climb near the top. Historically, Achala Fort was under the control of Adilshah in 1636 before being captured by Mughal forces under General Shaista Khan. In 1670, the fort was taken by Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj, only to later fall back to the Mughals after fierce battles led by commanders like Mahabat Khan.
Eventually, it was surrendered to the British in 1818. Today, the fort is in ruins but still features remnants of buildings, storehouses, water tanks, and a small temple, offering visitors a glimpse into its martial past amid scenic surroundings.
