Achalgarh Fort
Achalgarh Fort, located near Mount Abu in the Sirohi district of Rajasthan, was originally built by the Paramara dynasty and later reconstructed and renamed by Maharana Kumbha in 1452 CE. This medieval hill fortress, situated atop a mountain peak, was strategically built to guard the region and monitor enemy movements.
Though now largely in ruins, the fort features impressive granite walls and two main gates, Hanumanpol and Champapol, marking the entrance to its lower and inner sections. The site holds significant religious importance, housing the Achaleshwar Mahadev Temple dedicated to Lord Shiva, where a sacred toe imprint and a massive multi-metal Nandi statue are revered.
Within the fort complex, there are also ancient Jain temples built in 1513, known for their intricate carvings. Surrounding the fort are picturesque views of Mount Abu’s lush forests. Despite its dilapidated state, Achalgarh Fort remains a key historical and religious landmark reflecting Rajasthan’s rich medieval heritage.
