Akbari Darwaza
The Akbari Darwaza, also known as Akbari Gate, is a historic gateway located in the Chowk area of Lucknow, Uttar Pradesh. Built during the reign of Mughal Emperor Akbar (1556–1605), it served as an entrance to the Chowk and Shahganj localities. The structure is made of lakhauri bricks, a hallmark of Mughal architecture, and features a pointed arch design reminiscent of the gateways at Fatehpur Sikri.
The gate was constructed under the supervision of Qazi Mahmud Bilgrami and is believed to have been built to commemorate Akbar's first visit to Lucknow. It once housed shops selling clay items and toys, which were famous in the region. Over time, the Akbari Darwaza has become a symbol of Lucknow's rich heritage, though it now faces challenges due to lack of maintenance.
