Aligarh Fort
Aligarh Fort, also known as Aligarh Qila, is a historic fort located in Aligarh, Uttar Pradesh. The fort was originally built in 1524-1525 by Muhammad, the son of Umar, the governor of Kol (now Aligarh), during the time of Ibrahim Khan Lodi.
The fort has undergone several renovations and expansions over the centuries, including significant work by Sabit Khan during the reign of Farrukh Siyar and Muhammad Shah.
The fort gained prominence under Madhavrao I Scindia in 1759, who used it as a depot to drill and organize his battalions in European fashion with the aid of French soldier Benoît de Boigne. During the Battle of Ally Ghur in 1803, the fort was captured from the Marathas by Lord Gerard Lake's British army.
