Ancestral Goa, also known as the Big Foot Museum, is a captivating open-air cultural center located in the quaint village of Loutolim in South Goa. Founded by artist and conservationist Maendra Jocelino Araujo Alvares in 1998, the museum is dedicated to preserving and showcasing the traditional Goan way of life.
Spread across a lush landscape, it features over 100 life-sized exhibits that recreate a bygone era—complete with a village square, artisan workshops, a feni distillery, and homes of farmers and fishermen.
One of its most iconic attractions is the 14-meter-long laterite sculpture of Sant Mirabai, the longest of its kind in India, which earned a place in the Limca Book of Records. The museum also houses the legendary “Big Foot,” a footprint embedded in stone that is believed to bring good luck to those who step on it with reverence. Visitors can explore temples, churches, schools, and markets, all designed to reflect Goa’s rich multicultural heritage.
