Antur
Antur, located near Nagapur village in the Kannad taluka of Aurangabad (officially Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar) district, Maharashtra, is known for the historic Antur Fort built in the mid-15th century by a Maratha chief. The fort is situated on a nearly square hill about a mile in circumference with natural cliffs on three sides and artificial escarpments on the south.
It features two lines of walls with bastions and a strong teakwood gate, serving as a strategic lookout with 360-degree views of the surrounding valley. The fort was later controlled by the Nizam Shahi dynasty of Ahmadnagar between the 16th and 17th centuries.
Though now abandoned and overgrown with greenery, it still holds historical significance and charm, offering a peaceful retreat for visitors interested in Maharashtra’s heritage. Access is limited and usually requires a trek from nearby villages.
