Asigarh Fort / Hansi Fort

Asigarh Fort, also known as Hansi Fort, is a historic fort located on the eastern bank of Amti Lake in Hansi city of Hisar district, Haryana. The fort spans about 30 acres and was once a powerful center controlling around 80 forts in the region. It is known as the "Fort of Swords" due to its historical reputation as a major sword-making center established during the rule of the Tomara dynasty, particularly by King Anangpal Tomar.

The fort has seen numerous rulers including the Chauhans, Delhi Sultanate, Marathas, and British, and played key roles in various historical events including the 1857 revolt. Architecturally, the fort is notable for its high, thick walls, intricate carvings, and the presence of religious sites like a mosque and temples within its complex.

It holds significant archaeological importance with discoveries like ancient coins and Jain and Buddha statues in its vicinity. The fort is protected as a centrally important monument by the Archaeological Survey of India and remains a prominent symbol of India's rich medieval heritage.
