Asirgarh Fort, also known as Asigarh Fort, is a historic fortress located in the Satpura Range, about 20 kilometers (12 miles) north of Burhanpur, Madhya Pradesh.
The fort is often referred to as the "Key to the Deccan" due to its strategic importance in controlling the pass through the Satpuras, connecting the valleys of the Narmada and Tapti rivers.
The fort was originally built by a king named Asa Ahir in the early 15th century. Over the centuries, it has been ruled by various dynasties, including the Faruqi dynasty, Mughals, Marathas, and the British. One of the most notable events in its history was its capture by Mughal Emperor Akbar in 1601.
