Attiveri Bird Sanctuary
Attiveri Bird Sanctuary, located in the Uttara Kannada district of Karnataka, is a haven for birdwatchers and nature enthusiasts. Spread over 22 square kilometers, the sanctuary is centered around the Attiveri Reservoir, which attracts a diverse range of bird species, both resident and migratory.
The sanctuary is home to approximately 75 species of birds, including red-naped ibis, cormorants, hornbills, kingfishers, spoonbills, barn swallows, egrets, bee-eaters, and parakeets. The surrounding landscape consists of riverine and deciduous forests, providing an ideal habitat for various wildlife species.
Visitors may also spot mammals such as wild pigs, jackals, jungle cats, and mongooses within the sanctuary. The best time to visit is between November and March, when migratory birds arrive in large numbers, creating a spectacular sight for bird lovers.
