Bahadur Fort, also known as Bahadurgad or Dharmaveergad, is located in Pedgaon village in Ahmednagar district, Maharashtra, near the banks of the Bhima River. It was rebuilt and named by Mughal administrator Bahadur Khan in 1672 during his campaign against the Marathas. The fort served as a key Mughal military storage and frontier post.
According to history, Shivaji Maharaj planned a clever attack on the fort to seize 200 Arab horses and treasure stored there. Dividing his force into two groups, 2,000 entered the fort while 7,000 waited outside, creating a strategic deception that left the fort exposed and allowed the Marathas to capture the horses and wealth.
The fort also contains ancient temples and remnants dating back to the 13th century Yadava period. Though the fort is now largely in ruins, it remains an important historical site reflecting the military and strategic significance during the Mughal-Maratha conflicts.
