Bakhira Tal, located in Sant Kabir Nagar, Uttar Pradesh, is the largest natural floodplain wetland in eastern Uttar Pradesh. It is part of the Bakhira Wildlife Sanctuary, which was established in 1980 and designated as a Ramsar Site in 2021.
The sanctuary spans 2,894 hectares and serves as a crucial wintering ground for migratory birds traveling along the Central Asian Flyway. It supports over 80 bird species, including the endangered Egyptian vulture, vulnerable greater spotted eagle, and near-threatened oriental darter.
The wetland is also home to 119 plant species and 45 fish species, contributing to local biodiversity.
