Banasur Ka Kila, located near Lohaghat in Champawat district, Uttarakhand, is a historic hill fort situated at an elevation of about 1,859 meters. The fort is associated with the mythological demon king Banasur, son of Bali, who was defeated by Lord Krishna in a legendary battle. Local folklore connects the fort to the love story of Banasur’s daughter Usha and Krishna’s grandson Aniruddha, with the fort serving as the backdrop for this tale.
The fort features ruins of its thick walls, four defensive towers, and two grand gates, along with around 85 windows believed to have been used for defense and surveillance. It includes an ancient water reservoir with steps leading down into it, highlighting advanced water management of the time.
