The Bedse Caves, also known as Bedsa Caves, are a group of ancient Buddhist rock-cut monuments located in Maval taluka, Pune District, Maharashtra. These caves date back to the Satavahana period in the 1st century BCE. They are situated about 9 kilometers from the Bhaja Caves and offer a glimpse into the rich heritage of early Buddhist architecture.
The main attractions of the Bedse Caves are the Chaitya (prayer hall) and the Vihara (monastery). The Chaitya, Cave 7, features a large stupa and elaborate columns with animal capitals. The Vihara, Cave 11, has a unique rectangular plan with a rounded apsidal end and a vaulted roof. Both caves are adorned with intricate carvings and gavaksha (chaitya arch) motifs.
