Bhagwan Mahavir Wildlife Sanctuary, the largest in Goa, is located in the eastern part of the state near Mollem village, covering around 240 square kilometers including the Mollem National Park. Nestled in the Western Ghats foothills, it features diverse tropical evergreen, semi-evergreen, and moist deciduous forests with rich flora such as teak, bamboo, and cashew trees.
The sanctuary is home to a wide variety of wildlife including species like gaur, sambar, leopards, sloth bears, spotted deer, jungle cats, and Malayan giant squirrels, along with many snakes and over 200 bird species including the Malabar pied hornbill and paradise flycatcher. It also hosts famous landmarks like the Dudhsagar waterfall, Devil’s Canyon, and the historic 13th-century Tambdi Surla temple.
