Bhairavgad Fort, also known as Moroshi Bhairavgad, is a historic hill fort located near Malshej Ghat in the Sahyadri mountain range of Maharashtra. The fort is nearly 3000 years old and was built to guard the surrounding region and trade routes. It is one of the most challenging treks in Maharashtra, attracting experienced trekkers from all over.
The trek to Bhairavgad Fort starts from the base village of Moroshi and covers a distance of approximately 5 kilometers. The trek is divided into two parts: from the start point to Machi and then from Machi to the fort. The first part of the trail is through a forest and requires good stamina due to steep ascents. The second part of the trek is more technical and involves navigating rocky terrain.
Once at the top, trekkers are rewarded with breathtaking views of the surrounding forts, including Alang, Madan, Kulang, Harishchandragad, Rohida, Naneghat, Malshej Ghat, and Jivdhan.
The fort features two big caves that host a shrine of Lord Bhairavnath and a hostel. The idol in the cave is carved and painted and is in good condition.
