Bombay Castle
Bombay Castle, also known as Casa da Orta, is one of the oldest defensive structures in Mumbai, Maharashtra. It was originally built by Garcia de Orta, a Portuguese nobleman, between 1554 and 1570. The British later constructed the current castle on the site of Orta's Manor House after they took possession of the island in 1665.
The castle is made of blue Kurla stone and red laterite stone from the Konkan region. It features four bastions: the Flag Staff Bastion, the Flower Tree Bastion, the Tank Bastion, and the Brab Tree Bastion. The main building within the castle was the Governor's House, which was later moved to Parel and then to Malabar Hill.
Today, the castle houses the offices of the Flag Officer Commanding-in-Chief Western Naval Command. It's a fascinating historical site that offers a glimpse into Mumbai's colonial past.
