Buddha Statue
The Buddha Statue of Hyderabad is a stunning monolithic statue located in the middle of Hussain Sagar Lake. Standing at an impressive height of 18 meters (58 feet) and weighing approximately 350 tons, it is one of the tallest single-stone statues of Gautama Buddha in the world.
Carved from a single piece of white granite, the statue was commissioned in the 1980s by N.T. Rama Rao, the then Chief Minister of Andhra Pradesh, as part of the Buddha Purnima Project.
The statue was installed on a platform known as the "Rock of Gibraltar" in 1992, after overcoming challenges, including an accident during its initial installation. Visitors can reach the statue by taking a boat ride from Lumbini Park, which adds to the serene experience. The statue is especially captivating when illuminated at night, offering a tranquil and picturesque view.
