Established in 1982 as an elephant reserve, it lies on the northeastern edge of the Eastern Ghats and features a diverse landscape of rolling tablelands and hillocks.
The sanctuary is home to a wide variety of flora, including semi-evergreen forests, sal trees, bamboo brakes, and various medicinal plants.
