Chaukhamba I is the highest peak of the Chaukhamba massif in the Garhwal Himalayas of Uttarakhand, standing at 7,138 meters (23,419 feet). Located near the head of the Gangotri Glacier, it forms the eastern anchor of the Gangotri group of peaks, situated west of the holy town of Badrinath. The massif has four main summits arranged along a northeast-southwest ridge, with elevations ranging from 6,854 to 7,138 meters.
Chaukhamba I was first successfully climbed on June 13, 1952, by Swiss climbers Lucien George and Victor Russenberger. The peak is known for its challenging climbing routes involving snow, ice, steep ridges, and extreme weather conditions.
