Chinkara Breeding Centre

The Chinkara Breeding Centre is a protected wildlife breeding facility located in Kairu village, Tosham tehsil, Bhiwani district, Haryana. Established in 1985 on about 60 acres of undeveloped mixed forest, it began with 10 chinkaras and has grown significantly, housing over 100 animals including males, females, and young ones.

The centre focuses exclusively on the breeding and conservation of the chinkara (Indian gazelle), a species listed under Schedule I of the Wildlife Protection Act, 1972. The animals live in a natural forested habitat, are fed twice daily, and the centre also serves as a tourist attraction, showcasing local flora and fauna. It is maintained by wildlife officers under the Haryana forest department and has facilities like fenced enclosures and educational signage.

The centre plays an important role in protecting chinkaras from threats, maintaining their gene pool, and providing a platform for research and conservation efforts. It is accessible by road, about 35 km from Bhiwani railway station, and attracts visitors interested in wildlife and nature conservation.
