Constructed during the reign of Firoz Shah Tughlaq (1351–88 AD), this structure was originally built by an Afghan ruler named Jamal Khan as his tomb.

The name "Chor Gumbad," which translates to "Thieves' Dome," is derived from its later use as a hideout for thieves and highwaymen, adding an intriguing layer to its history.

The monument is a square-shaped structure with a single chamber and four minarets at each corner. Its design gives the appearance of a double-storied building due to the open veranda running around it. The Chor Gumbad is situated on a hillock, making it a prominent landmark in Narnaul. Over time, the surrounding area has been developed into a park, enhancing its appeal as a tourist destination.
