Darrah Wildlife Sanctuary
Darrah Wildlife Sanctuary is a protected area located about 50-56 kilometers from Kota in Rajasthan, spread over roughly 250 square kilometers of hilly terrain covered with dense dry deciduous forests. It was originally a royal hunting ground for the Maharaja of Kota and declared a sanctuary in 1955. The sanctuary is home to diverse wildlife including leopards, jackals, hyenas, sambar deer, nilgai, wolves, sloth bears, chinkaras, and various bird species.
The area is known for its thick forests, medicinal plants, and the presence of four rivers forming natural boundaries. Visitors can enjoy wildlife safaris and trekking, and a nearby historical highlight is Gagron Fort, located on the sanctuary’s edge, which adds cultural significance. The sanctuary is best visited between October and June as it remains closed during monsoon season due to heavy rains. It provides a rich experience combining Rajasthan’s wild biodiversity and historical heritage.
