Dashavatara Temple
The Dashavatara Temple, located in Deogarh, Lalitpur district, Uttar Pradesh, is an early 6th-century Hindu temple dedicated to Lord Vishnu. It is one of the earliest known Panchayatan temples in North India and showcases the ornate Gupta style architecture.
The temple features a simple, one-cell square plan and is adorned with intricate carvings depicting various deities, including Shiva, Parvati, Kartikeya, Brahma, Indra, and the river goddesses Ganga and Yamuna.
The temple is also known for its three large Rathika panels, which depict Vaishnava mythological scenes such as Gajendra Moksha, Nara-Narayan Tapasya, and Anantashayana Vishnu. The Dashavatara Temple is locally referred to as Sagar Marh, meaning "the temple on the tank," due to the square water pool cut into the rock in front of the temple.
