Devanahalli Fort, also known as Sangamam Fort, is located about 35 kilometers north of Bangalore in the Bengaluru Rural District, Karnataka. The fort has a rich history dating back to the 15th century when it was initially built by Malla Byre Gowda, a chieftain of the Vijayanagara Empire. Over the centuries, the fort changed hands multiple times, coming under the control of the Marathas, Hyder Ali, Tipu Sultan, and eventually the British during the Anglo-Mysore Wars.
The fort is known for its excellent architecture and historical significance. It is spread over an area of 20 acres and features 12 semi-circular bastions at regular intervals. The fort also has entrances on the east and west, decorated with intricate plasterwork. Nearby, you can find the birthplace of Tipu Sultan, marked by a small pillared enclosure with a stone tablet.
