Fortaleza de São Sebastião, also known as Tivim Fort, is a historic Portuguese fort located in North Goa, stretching from the village of Tivim to the area of Colvale. Built between 1635 and 1681 under the orders of the Portuguese viceroy D. Miguel de Noronha, it was constructed to protect the Bardez region from invasions by the Bahamanis and later the Marathas.
The fort featured high walls, guardhouses, and a canal that served as a moat. Although much of the structure is now in ruins, it exemplifies a blend of Portuguese and Indian architectural styles, with remnants of bastions and cannons still visible. The fort played a role in several battles, including Maratha invasions in the 17th and 18th centuries, before being abandoned in the mid-19th century.
Nearby stands the Chapel of Saint Michael, dating back to 1591, which was restored after damage during conflicts. Today, the fort is protected as a historical heritage site and is undergoing restoration efforts.
