It was strategically important on the Burhanpur-Surat trade route and features well-preserved bastions, gateways, and fortifications. The fort dates back to the 13th century and has witnessed control by various rulers including the Marathas, Bahmani Sultanate, Nizam Shah, Mughals, and the British.
Architecturally, it includes four gateways, a mosque with six domes, several tombs, and remains of a pleasure palace, reflecting influences from Rajasthani forts. The fort offers scenic views and is accessible via a broad flight of steps from the village of Galna, which is well connected by road.
