Gandhi Hall
Gandhi Hall, also known as Mahatma Gandhi Hall, is a historic building located in the heart of Indore, Madhya Pradesh. Originally constructed in 1904 by the acclaimed architect Charles Frederick Stevens, it was initially named King Edward Hall. The grand opening was officiated by Prince of Wales, George V, in 1905.
In 1948, following the death of Mahatma Gandhi, the hall was renamed in his honor by H. H. Yeshwant Rao Holkar II. The architectural style of Gandhi Hall is Indo-Gothic, featuring a blend of white stones from Seoni and red stones from Patan. The structure includes majestic domes, high minarets, and a quadrangular clock tower known as Ghantaghar, which chimes every fifteen minutes.
Gandhi Hall serves as a prominent venue for art and cultural exhibitions, book fairs, and various public events. The hall can accommodate up to 2,000 people indoors, with additional space on its grounds for larger gatherings. The recent renovation under the Smart City Indore project has restored the hall to its original grandeur, featuring marble flooring, a wooden stage, and captivating paintings on the walls.
