Ghatigaon Wildlife Sanctuary in Madhya Pradesh, near the city of Gwalior, spans about 511 square kilometers and was established in 1981 primarily to protect the habitat of the critically endangered great Indian bustard. The sanctuary is part of the Khathiar-Gir dry deciduous forest ecoregion, featuring low shrubland and woodland with predominant trees like khair, tendu, and reonjha.
Besides the great Indian bustard, it hosts diverse wildlife including blackbuck, chital, wild boar, striped hyena, wolves, and various birds. The terrain includes parts of the Tigra Dam reservoir, and the sanctuary offers activities such as safari rides, trekking, bird watching, and nature trails. It is accessible from Gwalior, about 30 km away, with accommodations available nearby.
The best time to visit is during the cooler months from November to March when wildlife sightings are more frequent.
