The Ghum Railway Museum, officially known as the Darjeeling Himalayan Railway Ghoom Museum, is located at the Ghum railway station in Darjeeling, West Bengal. Established in 2000, the museum showcases the rich heritage of the Darjeeling Himalayan Railway, which was designated as a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1999.
Ghum station itself holds the distinction of being India’s highest railway station, situated at an altitude of 7,400 feet. The museum is divided into two sections: an outdoor exhibit area and an indoor museum room. The outdoor section features historical railway artifacts, including Baby Sivok, the oldest toy train steam engine of the Darjeeling Himalayan Railway, which dates back to 1881.
Visitors can also see Coach No. 93, a rare surviving coach from the 1960s, along with freight vans that were used in the 1940s to transport goods. Other exhibits include a water tank wagon from 1928 and a four-wheeled trolley used for track maintenance.
The indoor museum houses photographs, documents, and models that narrate the history and engineering marvels of the Darjeeling Himalayan Railway.
