Hamta Pass, also known as Hampta Pass, is a high mountain pass located at an elevation of 4,270 meters (14,010 feet) in the Himalayan Pin Panjal range. It serves as a corridor between the Chandra Valley in Lahaul and the Kullu Valley in Himachal Pradesh. The pass is named after the nearby Hamta Village, situated below Sethan Village.
The pass is renowned for its dramatic crossover trek, offering trekkers a unique experience as they traverse from the lush green Kullu Valley to the stark, arid landscape of Lahaul. The trek typically starts from Manali, passes through Jobra, and continues to Chika, Balu Ka Gera, and Chatru before reaching the pass.
The journey includes traversing through vertical rock walls, waterfalls, hanging glaciers, pinewoods, rhododendron forests, open meadows, and small lakes.
Hamta Pass is a popular trekking route, especially during the monsoon season when the region is adorned with wildflowers and herbs. The trek is considered moderately challenging and is suitable for both beginners and experienced trekkers.
Many trekkers also extend their journey to Chandratal Lake, located at an elevation of 4,300 meters (14,107 feet), known for its clear blue waters and stunning surroundings.
