Hiranagar Fort, also known as Jasmergarh Fort, is located in Kathua district of Jammu and Kashmir and was built by Raja Hira Singh, after whom the town of Hiranagar is named. The fort, constructed primarily with lakhori bricks and featuring thick walls, is rectangular in shape and historically served as a symbol of royal power and governance.
Though now in ruins, it still houses a sanctum dedicated to Goddess Mahakali, which remains a popular place of worship. The fort has historical significance as part of the Dogra Kingdom and once functioned as a prison and government administrative center before offices were relocated after 1947.
It stands as a tribute to the region’s rich heritage and draws visitors for both its historical architecture and spiritual importance.
