Hosdurg Fort
Hosdurg Fort, also known as Puthiyakotta, is an 18th-century fort located in Kanhangad, Kasaragod district, Kerala. It was built by Somashekara Nayaka of the Keladi Nayaka dynasty of Ikkeri to serve as a strategic defensive stronghold. The fort features round bastions reminiscent of European architecture, thick walls, and watchtowers, offering panoramic views of the surrounding region.
Though now in ruins, it remains an imposing structure near the Arabian Sea, close to Kanhangad town. Nearby is the ancient Karpooreswara Temple dedicated to Shiva, constructed by the same Nayaka rulers, and Nityanandasram, an ashram featuring a series of caves.
The fort holds historical importance as part of the Nayaka defense system and has similarities with other local forts like Bekal and Kumbala. It attracts visitors interested in history, architecture, and Kerala's rich cultural heritage.
