Indori Fort
Indori Fort, also known as Induri Fort, is a historic hill fort located about 35 kilometers north of Pune in Maharashtra, near the hill station Lonavala. Built in 1720-21 by Sarsenapati Khandojirao Yesajirao Dabhade, a prominent Maratha leader, the fort stands at an elevation of around 1,033 meters (3,389 feet) above sea level on the banks of the Indrayani River.
Though the fort is largely in ruins today, it features a well-preserved entrance gate, nine bastions connected by walls made of basalt rock, and a temple dedicated to the goddess Kadjai Mata, which is still visited by locals.
The fort was strategically important during the Maratha Empire and includes remnants of a mint building. It is easily accessible by road and rail, with nearby stations at Ghorawadi and Talegaon, making it a popular spot for history enthusiasts and nature lovers who enjoy scenic views of the surrounding hills and river. Indori Fort offers a peaceful retreat where visitors can explore Maratha heritage and the natural beauty of the area.
