Juna Mahal, Dungarpur

Juna Mahal in Dungarpur, Rajasthan, is a historic seven-story palace complex built initially in the late 13th century and expanded over the centuries by successive rulers. Constructed mainly from local Parewa (or Dawra) stone, it is set on a high platform at the foothills of Dhanmata Hill, giving it the look of a fortified citadel with turrets, narrow corridors, and a single staircase connecting all floors.

The palace once served as the royal residence and administrative center for the Maharawals of Dungarpur and reflects Rajput architectural style with intricate mirror and glasswork, murals, frescoes, and miniature paintings inside. Some interiors even feature rare and artistic decorations, including Kama Sutra scenes, showcasing the palace's cultural richness.

Although parts of the structure have fallen into disrepair, the interior decorations remain a highlight. The palace is notable for its artistic frescoes depicting religious and royal themes, its unique green-blue stone windows, and historical significance linked to local legends and royal history. Juna Mahal remains a key tourist attraction symbolizing the regal heritage and craftsmanship of the Dungarpur region.
