Kamlah Fort
Kamlah Fort, also known as Kamlahgarh, is a 17th-century fort located near Kamlah village in Mandi district, Himachal Pradesh, built around 1625 by Raja Hari Sen and completed by his son Raja Suraj Sen.
Renowned as the most secure of the 360 forts of the Mandi kingdom, it served as the central stronghold for guarding the kingdom's treasury and armaments. The fort sits atop the Sikandar Dhar mountain ridge and is named after Baba Kamlahiya, a local saint whose temple remains a key attraction inside.
Despite its strength, the fort was attacked by Maharaja Ranjit Singh’s general Ventura in 1840, leading to partial destruction, but it was later reconstructed by the Mandi rulers after the Treaty of Amritsar in 1846. Kamlah Fort has witnessed many battles and sieges, including attempts by Afghan Nawab Adina Beg and Raja Sansar Chand of Kangra to capture it, but its loyal defenders ensured it remained impregnable for centuries, making it a symbol of resilience and historical importance in the region.
