Kaniairi Lake, also known as Kanigiri Reservoir, is a significant water storage reservoir located in the Sri Potti Sriramulu Nellore district of Andhra Pradesh, near Buchireddypalem, about 22 kilometers from Nellore town. Constructed between 1890 and 1898 during the British colonial period, it was designed by British engineers to support irrigation needs.
The reservoir plays a crucial role in supplying water for agriculture, drinking, and groundwater recharge across several mandals in the region, covering an irrigation area of about 138,600 acres. Water for the reservoir is fed from the Sangam Barrage and Somasila Dam via the Kanigiri Main Canal. Known for its natural beauty with greenery around its boundaries, it supports rural prosperity by helping in food production and improving the economic conditions of local farmers.
The reservoir also holds cultural significance, with temples and natural rock formations nearby, making it a valued resource for both livelihood and heritage in the region.
