The Kanpur Zoological Park, also known as the Allen Forest Zoo, is a 110-hectare zoo located in Kanpur, Uttar Pradesh. It is the largest open green space in Kanpur and the largest zoological park in North India. Originally a natural habitat for fauna, it is one of the few zoos in India created in a natural forest.
The animals are kept in open and moated enclosures, providing them ample space for movement and helping them express their biological and physiological behaviors.
The zoo is home to around 1,400 animals of 125 different species, including white tigers, leopards, black bears, grizzly bears, sloths, zebras, rhinoceros, hippopotamus, and various reptiles. It also features life-size models of dinosaurs, state-of-the-art enclosures, an international standard veterinary facility, and attractive garden areas. The zoo is a great spot for bird-watching, with over 741 bird species recorded.
