Kapra Lake, also known as Oora Cheruvu, is a natural lake located in Kapra Village, near Sainikpuri, in the northeastern part of Greater Hyderabad, Telangana. It spans 113 acres and is part of a chain of interconnected water bodies, including R.K. Puram Lake, Annarayan Cheruvu, and Yadi Bai Gunta.
Historically, Kapra Lake was considered pristine and pollution-free, but over the years, it has faced encroachments and pollution issues. In 2012, reports highlighted its deteriorating condition, and efforts have been made to restore and protect the lake.
The Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) has listed 25 structures as encroachments, including a temple, and has taken steps to prevent further land occupation.
