Kareri Lake
Kareri Lake is a shallow, high-altitude freshwater lake situated about 9 kilometers northwest of Dharamshala in Kangra district, Himachal Pradesh, at an elevation of approximately 2,934 meters. Fed by melting snow from the Dhauladhar range, the lake is known for its crystal-clear water and high visibility, with much of the lake bed visible. It remains frozen from early December to March or April.
The surrounding area features dense forests of pine, oak, and deodar, and there is a hilltop temple dedicated to Lord Shiva and Shakti overlooking the lake. The region is popular with trekkers, serving as a base for further treks into the Dhauladhar mountains and the famous Seven Lake Trek.
It is also used seasonally by Gaddi shepherds for grazing livestock. The lake offers tranquil natural beauty with views of the surrounding mountains and is favored as a peaceful retreat and trekking destination.
