Kausani

Kausani is a serene hill station located in the Bageshwar district of Uttarakhand, perched at an elevation of approximately 1,890 meters above sea level. Often referred to as the “Switzerland of India” by Mahatma Gandhi, the town is celebrated for its sweeping 300-kilometer panoramic views of the Himalayan peaks, including Trishul, Nanda Devi, and Panchachuli.

Surrounded by dense pine forests and nestled atop a ridge, Kausani offers a tranquil retreat for nature lovers, writers, and spiritual seekers alike. The town holds historical and cultural significance, with landmarks such as the Anasakti Ashram where Gandhi stayed in 1929 and penned his commentary on the Bhagavad Gita.

It is also the birthplace of renowned Hindi poet Sumitranandan Pant, whose childhood home has been converted into a museum showcasing his literary legacy. Kausani’s tea gardens add to its charm, producing high-quality mountain-grown tea that visitors can sample while touring the plantations.

Kausani is ideal for trekking and nature walks, with nearby trails leading to Rudradhari Falls and Caves, and ancient temples in Baijnath and Bageshwar enriching the experience. The climate remains pleasant throughout the year, with snowy winters offering a magical landscape and clear summer skies revealing the grandeur of the Himalayas.
