Kazinag National Park, located in Baramulla district of Jammu and Kashmir near the north bank of the Jhelum River, spans about 160 square kilometers. Established in 1992, it is known for its rich biodiversity and temperate climate, with temperatures ranging from -20°C to 30°C. The park features dense coniferous forests including deodar, fir, spruce, and pine, along with birch and broad-leaved trees at varying elevations.
It is home to endangered species like the Markhor wild goat, as well as snow leopards, Himalayan black and brown bears, musk deer, and over 120 bird species, such as the Koklass pheasant and Himalayan monal. Kazinag plays a critical role in conservation and is part of a proposed trans-Karakoram peace park between India and Pakistan, fostering cross-border environmental cooperation.
