Khimsar Fort

Khimsar Fort near Khinvsar village in Nagaur district, Rajasthan, was built in 1523 by Rao Karamsji, the eighth son of Rao Jodha, the founder of Jodhpur. Positioned on the eastern edge of the Thar Desert, the fort has a striking horizontal quadrangular architecture with strong defensive walls and four bastions perched on cliffs. Originally a military stronghold, it later became a royal residence, reflecting Rajput valor and culture.

The fort complex includes several Hindu and Jain temples, royal quarters such as the Rani Mandir for royal ladies, and features like a cannon-guarded archway and historical towers. Despite some wear over centuries, much of the structure remains intact. Today, Khimsar Fort functions as a heritage hotel run by the royal family descendants, preserving traditional hospitality, rich interiors, and cultural performances.

It offers visitors a glimpse of Rajasthan's regal past with scenic views of the desert and nearby sand dunes, camel safaris, folk music, and traditional cuisine, making it a unique blend of history, architecture, and desert charm. The fort has witnessed many historical events and remains an emblem of Rajasthan's resilient heritage.
