MacFarlane Memorial Church
The MacFarlane Memorial Church in Kalimpong, West Bengal, is a remarkable architectural feat built during British rule. Named after Rev. William MacFarlane, the first Scottish missionary to visit Kalimpong, the church was established in 1891.
It is one of the few churches in India where services are held in ten different languages, including Chinese, Urdu, Lepcha, Hindi, English, Bodo, Nepali, Bengali, Sanskrit, and Tibetan.
The church is designed in the Gothic Revival style, featuring a tall bell tower with arched windows and ventilators. The interior of the church is adorned with wooden roofs and dedicatory plaques, showcasing Kalimpong's colonial heritage. The church commands a clear view of Kalimpong town and, on a clear day, the majestic Kanchenjunga mountain range.
