Madhogarh Fort
Madhogarh Fort, located in Mahendragarh district of Haryana, was built in the first half of the 18th century by Madho Singh I of the Kachwaha Rajput clan and named after him. The fort served as a strategic resting point between Jaipur and Delhi and is one of the few hill forts in Haryana, situated atop Madhogarh Hill in the Aravalli mountain range. It features stone masonry ramparts, observation towers, a palace, a garrison building, and a step well for rainwater harvesting.
Historically, the fort changed hands between Rajputs and the Maratha Empire in the 18th century after battles involving local chieftains and the Maratha ruler Khande Rao Holkar. The architecture reflects Hindu Rajput style, with high walls and difficult access for defense. The Haryana government is working to restore the fort and develop it as a tourist destination along with other forts in the region.
Madhogarh Fort’s scenic location and historical significance make it an important heritage site in Haryana.
