Madikeri Fort is a historic fort located in the heart of Madikeri, the capital of Kodagu (Coorg) district in Karnataka. The fort, originally built by Mudduraja in the 17th century, has seen several renovations and expansions by various rulers over time. One of the most notable changes was made by Tipu Sultan, who rebuilt the fort in granite and renamed it Jaffarabad.
The British later took control and made further modifications to the structure.
The fort is a prominent landmark in Madikeri and offers visitors a glimpse into the region's rich history and architecture. Inside the fort complex, you'll find a palace that now houses government offices, a museum showcasing artifacts and relics from the past, and two life-size stone elephant statues at the entrance.
The fort also has a church, St. Mark's Church, which has been converted into a museum.
